Candy Cane Crime

by Amanda Flower

A Christmas novella featuring Bailey and the Swissmen Sweets crew.

Review

Candy Cane Crime brings Bailey King and the Swissmen Sweets crew into another Christmas adventure. The holiday season in Harvest, Ohio is in full swing, and Bailey is juggling candy cane production with an unexpected mystery that threatens to dampen the festive spirit.

The Christmas setting is one Flower returns to with obvious affection. The decorations, the cold weather, and the community gatherings create a backdrop that is as warm as it is atmospheric. Harvest at Christmas remains one of the cosiest settings in the genre, and Flower leans into that appeal without overdoing it.

The mystery is light and well-suited to the novella format. Flower does not try to cram a full novel’s worth of complexity into a shorter page count. Instead, she delivers a focused whodunit with a small cast of suspects and a resolution that ties together neatly.

For readers working through the series in order, Candy Cane Crime offers a pleasant holiday stop along the way. It captures everything that makes the Amish Candy Shop mysteries enjoyable — the characters, the setting, the sweets, and just enough mystery to keep the pages turning.
